What we are

Benjamins is a community big band with 25+ members with ages ranging from teens to 70+.

Charts

We play a number of jazz standards that no doubt you would have heard of plus more contemporary charts from artists such as Van Morrison, Michael Bublé, Michael Jackson, James Morrison, plus Earth Wind & Fire and much more.

Rehearsals

Benjamin's Big Band rehearses on Wednesday nights during school terms (see calendar) from 6:45pm to 8:15pm at Mimosa Public School on Sydney's Northern Beaches.

Communication

The majority of communications is via an internal email list with paid-up members having full access. Various guests and alumni may also receive posts from this list.

Costs

2024 Band fees are $290 per semester (1/2 year) and include Garigal Community Performing Arts Society membership. Band tours and festival participation may result in additional costs. All payments are by direct deposit.

Code of Conduct
This Code of Conduct outlines the standard of conduct and behaviour expected of members and officials of Benjamins Big Band and applies to all band related activities.
  • Value, encourage and support each other in the pursuit of musical excellence and group performance.
  • Act with professionalism to foster and preserve reputations as individuals and that of the Band.
  • Demonstrate commitment by attending rehearsals and being on time for rehearsals and performances. Notify the conductor when unable to attend.
  • Ensure all band fees are paid in full in a timely manner.
  • Treat each other with honesty, respect and courtesy.
  • Recognise the individual rights and worth of each person, without regard to age, gender, ability, race, religion or cultural background.
  • Model appropriate behaviour. Act in a way that does not harm the reputation of the Band, or past or present members.
  • Avoid conflicts of interest, and not use or take advantage of any band information or official duties for personal benefit or for the benefit of any other person.
  • Respect and maintain band property, including music folders. If able, help with set up and take down of rehearsal and concert gear.
